Just wondered if anyone on here had considered investing in the new eco distillery at Glen Wyvis , Dingwall. Read through the share offer this morning. Offering shares at 50GBP with a potential for a financial return of 4% starting 2022. As with all of these its a big risk. It states that the shares will never go up in value, so I`m struggling to see where your financial return comes apart from the 4% dividend which is not gauranteed. There are a few incentives , depending on your investment.

Any thoughts?

I looked at this and could not see any good reason to put money in to it.

Exactly, it says long term investment but not sure where the returns actually come from, especially since the interest on your shares is optional.

Looking at this, it doesn't really have any money behind it and is very dependent on crowd funding and loans and even if they reach the crowdfund target this time they still need to find a lot more money in the future.

Quote:
Capital value of shares: unlike limited companies, there is no trade in shares, and the value of shares does not increase above the value originally paid for the share. Similarly, to limited companies, Community Benefit Society members are regarded as “last resort” in any bankruptcy or liquidation, receiving only such monies are available after all other creditors have been paid.

It is not really an investment, more like supporting a community project, no dividends are paid to shareholders

Quote:
Dividends: Community Benefit Society shares do not pay dividends, but interest, decided annually at the discretion of the Board. The Business Plan forecasts payment of interest after 5 years of investment but with a package of non-cash investment rewards which reflects members’ interest in the distillery itself and its products.

You put in £1000 and you get 20 X £50 shares and you get 2 bottles of Glenwyvis gin.

To be honest I am very surprised it has attracted £948,430 in crowd funded money so far, not sure it will reach its £1,500,000 target by 24th June 2016.
