In a recent episode of the Blacklist, Red egregiously mispronounced Islay and expressed a preference for Highland scotch because "is lay" water all tastes like seaweed and iodine.
Meanwhile, I've noticed several "prop" scotches in shows lately, like Glencallan, and I'm wondering if they are just colored water, or if they actually have alcohol content. Anyone know? |

Let me answer by letting you know how liquor and beer is dispatched on the longest standing soap in the UK, Coronation Street. If the spirits and beer were real over these 50 years, they would have gone through a liquid river. Unfortunately, they use apple juice as whisky and brandy, and water for vodka. The beer in the pumps isn’t real. It’s watered-down shandy with a bit of cola to give it the right colour. I expect TV series across the board do not use "real alcohol" but strictly liquid props in glasses.

| For many years TV shows and movies have used made up non existent whisky brands, but more recently product placement has become popular and whisky brands are paying to have their products in TV show and films, such as The Macallan in James Bond movies, and you often saw Jameson and The Glenlivet in Mad Men. |
