I think most of us have seen the selling of empty bottles and boxes being sold on some web sites
its a worrying trend as I think we will see more fake bottles hopefully I'm wrong

| I destroy the packaging and deface the label before I dispose of my empties, hopefully that means they cannot be 'reused'. If I take the glass to the recycling I make sure it gets smashed when entering the bottle bank. |

No it's horrid to see. I take the corks out of my bottles, and smash them
Up. My missis had a lovely idea of taking the lables of the really nice bottles I have and framing them to make are cupboard under the stairs look good, but have never done it |

| It baffles me who buys the empty entry level malt whisky bottles you see on ebay, surely there would be little or no profit for fakers to refill and reseal these and put them into an auction and hope they don't get spotted by the auction house checks. Perhaps there are genuinely people out there who collect empty whisky bottles, it is beyond me why anyone would do that though. |

| It's certainly worrying. I do wonder if in 5-10 years time that auction houses will refuse to sell some of the whiskies being bought now as investments because they're too easy to fake. Some of the seals you see on certain bottles look so basic that even a noddy like me could make a good stab at making them look genuine with my 'junior wine making kit'. But I don't see Ebay and the like refusing to sell the empties. |

Ha Ha... I seem to be a cork hoarder too...keeping them for spares but never really needed many... Seriously though I like others have always been curious to find out who or where these empties end up. Can there be any other reason for purchase other than for the wrong reason? I'm struggling to see one. |

Believe it or not, I think many people buy them to fill them up with a lesser Whisky to have on display and to serve people that come over, like a status symbol for those who can not afford the real thing.
Take a bottle of Mac 25 and fill it with Ruby. Put it on the bar and when guests come over, offer to "treat them" to an expensive Whisky. |
