Was looking at a few Bottlings from the German Indie bottlers 'Malts of Scotland' recently and was shocked at how freakishly dark they where. One was a bottle of Miltonduff and it looked like black office coffee! Turns out they do not colour there Bottlings.

Got me thinking, what's the darkest naturally coloured the whisky anyone has tried? I know it doesn't necessarily improve the taste, but some of them look very inviting I have to say!

I guess mine are My bottle of Kavalan Solist Sherry and DL XOP Strathmill 33 ( and that was a refill! )

A 1993, 19yo Glendronach single cask. PX sherry. To be honest, the sherry was very intense so I wouldn't always say that it makes it better.

Had a 37yo Glen Grant from Berrys4 that was sherry matured too, that was pretty damn dark.

Yup, Glendronach single cask bottlings are seriously dark.
… but for me the darkest was Strathisla from late 60s’

Like opelfruit, for me it was probably one of Glendronach's PX casks, however I don't remember which one as it was at a tasting and didn't take notes.

A 13 year-old PX Cask I have currently (unopened) is pretty dark as well. Off the top of my head, a Glenfarclas family cask (1968, bottled 2012) was also among the darkest.

A Glenfarclas 1959 .. Now that had serious colour.. Also a 1967 Glenfarclas.. That is ruddy dark too.. But like said earlier some of the Glendronachs are very dark and at a younger age too..

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. The darkness I attribute to the fact that this 12 year old whisky is aged the final two years in a port cask, making for a seriously reddish tinge to the color.

The darkest Scotch in my collection is Bowmore 15. It is finished in a sherry cask.

I just got a bottle of The Macallan 25th Anniversary (1971). It is officially the darkest Scotch that I have ever seen.

Glenrothes 1979 #13458 - It hardly tasted like whisky, it was a very strange experience.
