I'm wondering what other folks do when they pour a scotch. I find that some benefit from letting it air in the glass for a while. Do you like to taste immediately or give it some time in the glass before enjoying?

There was no poll option for "depends" so I couldn't vote.
You see, if it's a bottle that has been opened before, I may enjoy right away or let it sit for a few mins.
If it's a new bottle it will depend on the type and age of the Whisky. The older ones I let sit for awhile before enjoying, as I believe it provides the best nose and tasting experience. _________________ If Jack Bauer was gay, his name would be Chuck Norris |

Very good point. Added. I find the a few glenmorangies like the nectar or Quinta need some time to sit upon first opening. But after a while can be enjoyed right after pouring. |

| Depend on the whisky. All of them are “breathing†at least 10 min but many needs 20+. |

| I hardly ever let my Scotch sit before the first sip but I am a slow drinker. |

| It depends on what whisky it is really, but ranges from 5 to 20 mins |

| I dive straight in but take my time, repeatedly nosing and tasting over time. |

I voted depends..
For me every whisky is different, some need a long time to open and develop, as most of what I drink is for review purposes for the blog I have to get everything I can out of it.. Also a big part of my enjoyment of whisky is the nose itself then why rush into drinking.. Some of the older whisky and some grains edpecially can take at least 15-30 mins to fully open and give off all its secrets.. But every one is different and this will get many different opinions..good topic |

| I tend to leave my whisky for a while to open up in the glass before I drink it. |

I generally follow Ralfy's rule of thumb, 1 min in the glass for each yr. in the
barrel. And since I can't afford the old stuff, I rarely have to wait longer
than 12 minutes. |
