Following on from the release of the Lagavulin 8 year 200th Anniversary bottling earlier this year the distillery is continuing its bicentennial celebrations with the announcement of the forthcoming release this September of the Lagavulin 25 Year Old 200th Anniversary Limited Edition bottling which will be a release of 8,000 bottles worldwide and will have a retail recommended price of £799 / US$1,185.

£799 is quite a price, out of my reach for drinking. It will be interesting to see how quickly this sells out at this price.

Has anyone tried the new Laguvulin 8? I'm new to this forum (and to Scotch drinking!), so trying to figure it out!

The 8 year is fantastic. Well worth the price tag, and honestly, I like it better than the 12yo (which I also like quite a bit). It's very surprising how complex the 8yo turned out to be.

Ah, well it's not about the amount of years in a cask but the quality of the cask Wink

You can put rubbish whisky in excellent casks and get good whisky, but if you put excellent whisky in bad casks you get rubbish.

As whisky gets older the its peaty profile can become tamer and many people prefer the younger expressions of the big peaty Islay whiskies and in the case of the 8 year old I would say Lagavulin made sure that they picked out something very special.
