| Its new to me, I haven't come across it yet. Any chance it is peated, the reason I ask is apparently part of their annual production from 2010 - 2013 was heavily peated but I haven't seen any released yet. |

I don't know anything about the Tesco offering mentioned here. However, I am partial to Tamnavulin, especially the 45 year old I tried. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Other than a few bottles of Ben Bracken 12 year old from Lidl supermarket which I had a few years back which was reputed to be from Tamnavulin I haven't had much experience of Tamnavulin. It should be interesting but I have been quite disappoint with more than a few NAS whiskies around this price. |

Just had a look at the Tamnavulin Double Cask on the Tesco website, they say it was matured in American oak barrels and finished in sherry casks.
Their tasting notes says: Amber gold in colour, this rich and elegant Speyside single malt whisky has hints of sweet toffee, honey and, marzipan on the nose with refreshing pineapple, pear and subtle citrus notes on the palate
Priced £32, will probably go on offer as part of that supermarket game were they pretend we are getting a great bargain so i expect we will see it for around £25 at some point. |

I just posted about this in the 'bargains' section. Picked up a bottle this morning. Worth a punt at that price. It's listed on Whiskybase but no comments have been added yet. |

| Probably about the right price for a NAS Tamnavulin , hopefully it has had a decent sherry finish. |

I too was suckered in by Tesco's introductory offer of £22 (£10 off, not too shabby).
I struggle to describe what this NAS single malt effort REALLY is...not medicinal, but not really fruity and sherry-like either....A tough one for sure!
Whilst in no way offensive, it is entirely forgettable. To my mind similar in most respects to Aberlour standard expression (and in some ways the Abudnah limited batch release; which I felt was overrated/overpriced). It is a classic example of a fairly young whisky NAS single malt and sherry cask marriage.
Distillery: Built 1960's, mothballed 1995, re-opened 2005, re-vamped 2007, running at full capacity output 2011. According to this timeline I would predict this liquid gold is around 6/7 years old, limited resting in barrels churning out a sadly MOR mild whisky that is an easy dram in the winter evenings.
Other distilleries will save back a fair amount of "legacy stock" of more characteristic lines to "top off" in a blended single malt (something Cutty Sark & one or two others do incredibly well; before anybody accuses me of being a whisky snob! {Try Prohibition}). Maybe they will do well to take notes from them and contribute this spirit to a greater whole (similar to Caol Ila secret weapon on so many blended lines-Black bottle, etc, but plenty of "not-so-great" spirits make up the rest).
One of those bottles I will drink, won't save particularly for guests to sample, wouldn't buy again, not worth top whack (£32!) but good enough to try when reduced if curious. _________________ Everything in life, depends completely on your distinct point of view... |

| I tried it and was underwhelmed by it, pity as there is always room for a decent sherried dram priced for everyday drinking. it is well packaged and if they keep the price around £22 over the Christmas period they will probably sell a load of it to the gift buyers. |
