Well, it was bound to happen eventually - after having gone through hundreds of whisky bottles in my time, I finally opened one with a damaged cork. It's a 20cl bottle of Caol Ila 12 - unfortunately it can't be returned as it was a gift from ages ago which I forgot I had.
The whisky itself is interesting: a lot of alcohol has evaporated, (my guess is it's around 30% ABV now at most) and with it a lot of the flavour has gone. But all the trademark Caol Ila smoke is intact, so essentially what we're left with is some peat juice I guess!

| May be worthwhile adding it to a lesser whisky or blend and seeing what magic occurs? Even dodgy Caol Ila being added to something can only improve it! |

Ouch.
You got anything cask strength with some body you can stick into it? Maybe another peater like a Corryvrecken or something? That should sort it out. Just don't over do it. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| That's unlucky, I have had corks break up when I have removed them for the first time but luckily the whisky was fine. |

Good idea, I do indeed have a Corryvreckan, will experiment and see how it goes. Since it's only a 20cl bottle of Caol Ila it won't be a lot of wasted Ardbeg if it goes wrong! |

| On second thoughts, I happen to have a cask strength whisky I don't like so I can experiment freely. Not sure how a blend of Auchentoshan Valinch and Caol Ila will turn out, but no harm trying! |

Well adding 1 flavourless whisky to another flavourless whisky may end up with a result. Who knows? The Caol Ila is missing whallop, maybe the the to toshan abv will give it that......if nothing else. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |
