|
|
Longmorn single malt whisky has just unveiled two new expressions which will join the Longmorn The Distiller’s Choice, which launched earlier this year, to form what is now their core range of whisky.
The new Longmorn 23 year old which was matured in traditional oak casks, bottled at 48% ABV without chill-filtration.
The new Longmorn 16 year old, but that isn't new I hear you say, you are correct, this is what Longmorn are describing as a reinterpretation of the Longmorn 16 year old we already know, basically same age new recipe. So technically the old Longmorn 16 which in my opinion was nothing more than a poor shadow of the quality of the old Longmorn 15 year old it replaced a few years back has now been discontinued and replaced by the new Longmorn 16.
More info here, and look out for the prices of the 2 new whiskies

| £145 for the new 16 year old and £840 for the new 23 year old, good luck to them selling many at that price, insane greed. |

| At £145 will this now be the most expensive 16 year old core range whisky available. |

| I cannot think of any current core range whisky of equivalent age which comes anywhere near the prices of the new Longmorn 23 or 16. I thought the likes of Royal Brackla and Aultmore were stretching the limits with the pricing of their older expressions which are good by the way but Longmorn are way by acceptable limits. |

| I can see these collecting dust on the shelves of the whisky shops, outrageous pricing. I buy a lot of Chivas Brothers whiskies but these will never be on my shelf at these prices. If anyone fancies trying Longmorn then take a look at what indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail has to offer, I have had a few excellent bottlings of Longmorn from G & M in the past. |

| I am half way through a bottle of what is now the old Longmorn 16 andfeel it wasn't worth the asking price so I cant see me paying £145 for the new Longmorn 16 and the price of the Longmorn 23 is mad. |

| I would hate to think the prices of these new Longmorn whiskies are a sign of things to come. |

I guess that they must think that these new expressions will sell at these prices.
Not quite sure to whom though. They're not collectible, nor investible. So'I guess the answer must be that they're targetting drinkers. Rich ones. |

That seems to be the way things are going
Like Archer I've got a bottle of the previous 16yo version open and I've not been feeling the need to rush out and get any more and I certainly won't be buying any at the new prices.
Where is this madness going to end? |

| As it happens I think the old core range 15 is better than the 16. I won't be buying, but I'm glad I've tucked away a couple of the 15 so I can remember what Longmorn used to taste like. |
