Your usual drinking price.
And your top end bottles
How often do you spend this? |

My price range has changed dramatically over the past 5 years or so and continues to go up to maintain the quality which I want to drink.
Everyday dramming I am looking at £30 - £60 a bottle, something a little extra special up to £100. For a special occasion or just to spoil myself once and a while I don't have a set limit but rarely have I gone over £200 for a bottle, |

| I don't have set limits anymore.. If I can justify spending the asking price then I do.. I don't class my whisky as everyday or special anymore.. But so far I have not spent more than I could afford.. |

This has definitly changed over the years with the rising whisky prices. Back in the days it was so easy to get a under $50CAD bottle (e.g. Macallan 10, HP12, Glenmorangie 10), now I would be lucky if it's under $65CAD.
If I have to put a price range of what I consider Daily vs Nice vs Celebratory
Daily: ~$55-65CAD (Glendronach 12, HP12, Double Black, Laphroaig QC, Glenfarclas 12 etc.)
Nicer and still kind of everyday: $66-$100CAD (Talisker 10, Arbeg Ten, Nadurra 16, Glenfarclas 15, Aberlour A'bundah, Oban 14, etc.)
Nicer but not quite everyday: $101-$150CAD (Cairdeas, Glenfarclas 17/21, Laddie 16, Glendronach 15, Aberfeldy 18, HP18, Flaming Hearts, etc.)
Anything around $150-200 I really have a hard time justifying. I only have a few bottles of those and none opened. Such as Glenlivet 21 Archive, Springbank 18, Dalmore 18, JW XR21, Cuvee 382, Talisker 25, etc.
I've yet to pull the trigger on anything over $300CAD. |

| I will spend anything between £100 and £500 in any month, this could go on anything from 1 to 10 bottles. This keeps my stock of everyday dramming whisky and stuff for a special occasion topped up. |

For every day dramming I am having to spend around £100 for some of my old favourites such as Highland Park 18, around 10 years ago this would have been £40 - £45. I definitely spend more now than I used to but luckily I stock piled many favourites to drink in the future. I feel prices are still slowly rising on older aged whisky so I still tuck some away.
I have to say age matters to me and I grudge paying for it but still pay to get what I like. |

I remember about 6-7 years ago, Tesco made a mistake and briefly sold the 18 year-old for 12 year-old prices. Got a bottle for £30. I wasn't as experienced as I am now unfortunately, otherwise I would've bought their entire shelf! |

Well that is an amazing find!! I will keep my fingers crossed although not sure I will be as lucky...
I am fairly new to whisky so I am still touring the low end malts £30-£50.. The most I have ever spent is on Talisker 18 which was on the £80/£90 mark.. |

| Keith I think I'm on a similar spend.. My wife mentioned I'd spent about £500 this month so I said " so I'm ok for something else then " I obviously didn't buy anything else 😬 |

My experience is that quality is directly related to the price of a whisky up to $100, and then does not necessarily increase thereafter.
E.g., a $60 bottle will taste a lot better than almost any $40 bottle, and a $80 bottle will probably be even better. But a $200 whisky is not necessarily better than a $100 whisky. It might be but not reliably. It might be more rare or special in terms of situation of finding it or touring the source, but probably not better.
Anyway, that is a good rule of thumb. |
