This just released on TWE...

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/34409/glenfarclas-1976-40-year-old

Would love a bottle as it's my birth year but sadly there is no way I can afford one - even though compared to some other 40yo bottlings it's actually quite reasonable!

Which rasies two questions...

1. Who can afford to buy these types of bottlings?
2. What's the most you have ever spent on a single bottle?

Why not have a look at my recent thread about "Glenfarclas 17th Anniversary Chairman's Reserve". A vatting in 2011 of four casks from 1965, 1965, 1966 & 1969 (so 41yo).

Sadly, now it is down to its last two bottles, The GrapeVine (on Amazon) has greedily increased its price from £374 to £550 this week.

But £550 is still way less than £1,150.

Yeah, I saw your thread and checked out the prices, but £550 is still way more than I can afford or justify spending on a bottle of whisky. Guess I'll just have to wait until I win the lottery or magically become a billionaire Laughing

Most ive spent was £100 On a glenfiddich age of discovery.....the first one.
I do have 4 snow pheonix and perhaps one day if i could sell a couple somewhere theyll subsidise me buying the other 2 age of discoveries.

A quick look here - https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/auctions/search/?q=snow+pheonix - would suggest you could get some decent money for your Snow Pheonix if you decide to sell, which should enable you to get the others you want Smile

I've bought a few bottles at auction but never sold anything - not sure I've got anything that would be worth trying to sell anyway.

BLOODY HELL!
Didnt think they were worth that much. Thought they would be worth 100tops......then about 20quid off for fees and posting.
My god theyve went up a few quid. Ive got two foundation reserve aswell, but i remember they went for 500 at the time on ebay then down to 250.
I may hang onto them if theyre going up that much.....shame really as i was always going to drink one but at that price id be scared too.....especially if theyre going to keep rising.

It's crazy/amazing (delete as appropriate) how much some bottles are going for at auction these days. Just wish I had a few auction worthy bottles stashed away but sadly I don't.

Good luck with that!!

This is now unavilable (from TWE anyway) - so that removes any lingering temptation I might have been feeling Laughing
