Hi All

Ive just taken delivery of my first bottle of Edradour Caledonia 12 year old, and noticed that it's a tad 'cloudy' and not as clear as i would expect. Is this normal for Edradour? as none of the 100's of bottles or malt ive ever purchased over the years look this way, even though first nose & taste impressions seem fine.

Thanks

Bob

I am guessing that it is non chill filtered which would mean it could appear cloudy if the bottle is cold but nothing to worry about.

What Blackadder said. I dream to have cloudy drams with bits in it. Shows it hasn't been messed about with and is bottled as it comes. No messing about. Funnily enough some Blackadder drams I have had came with black remnants from the cask. Single barrel, cask strength, non chill filtered and nothing added (or taken away). Job done.

just checked it online, the whisky is unchillfiltered and natural colour.

Due to the weather at the moment, it's cold, the whisky will cloud - especially if it's been in a warehouse for a while or in transport.

It's bottled at 46% abv, this strength stops whisky from being cloudy in general terms (apart from when cold), so once it warms up to room temperature it should clear. Even if it doesn't clear it is perfectly safe to drink. The reason for chill filtered is to make whisky clear so consumers don't react as you have done Smile

......to geeks, cloudy whisky is good whisky.

Hi All

thanks, and it did clear a lot as the bottle warmed up to room temperature, you live and learn !! and after 40 years of appreciating scotch i dont know how i havent come across this fact before lol, i just thought that maybe because it was non chill filtered and read somewhere that Edradour are quite traditional it must have been fairly normal for them

Cheers

Bob
