The Dalmore are set to release a rare Domaine Henri Giraud Champagne cask finished Dalmore 50 year old to mark Richard Paterson's half century crafting whisky.

The whisky spent most of its 50 years maturing in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, some time in Matusalem Oloroso sherry casks, then Port Colheita pipes then back to Bourbon barrels and then finished in Domaine Henri Giraud Champagne casks for 50 days before bottling.

The Dalmore 50 Year Old is certainly for those of you with deep pockets or lottery winners, with a price tag 0f £50,000

More here and the official tasting note:

Only 50.000? I'll get two. You know, one for collecting.... Laughing

Anyway, don't you think such a long journey through so many different casks is a bit of too much? I'm more interested in less complex journeys...see how they individually affect the final result of a whisky maturation/finish. But clearly to justify such an stupid amount of money, you need to do something which isn't there in the market....

I am not going to knock it until I have tasted it Very Happy

Seriously though some of the current Dalmore travel retail no age statement whiskies which have spent time in different casks are very good so this shifting the spirit around different casks can work.

A shame that a more accessible bottling couldn't have been produced to mark such an auspicious occasion

Totally agree, I am surprised they have missed this opportunity.
