| I have a chance to pick up a bottle of Macallan a Fine Oak 17 and was curious on people's thoughts on it. I understand it a combination of Sherry and Bourbon barrels? It's going to run me $180 CAD...worth the money? Because I was also pondering an Auchentoshan 21 at the same price point...but the Auch is readily available so I'm torn. |

I found the balance of Macallan Fine Oak 17 year old to be more sherried than bourbon, I enjoyed it but felt I would have been happier had I spent my money on a Macallan 18 sherryoak.
The Auchentoshan 21 is superb IMO, no sherry but a quality complex dram with a mix of honeyed, vanilla, barley sweetness, given the choice between the 2 the Auchentoshan would be my choice |
