Wondering if anyone has tried the 2006/2016 Talisker Distillers Edition yet and have any thoughts?

Also curious about anyone's experiences with the Talisker DEs across the years, for those who have tried various year's bottlings...

I have a 20cl of the 1993/2007 (5JV) from a gift pack, which I've yet to open and just picked up a bottle from Amazon on a Lightning Deal the other week, which has turned out to be the latest 2006/2016 release on arrival rather than the pictured 2003/2014, which seemed to receive some positive reviews.

Oh and what do the three letter codes on them mean (eg 5JV on the 93/07)?

I notice the age on them seems to be on a decreasing trend? 93/07 -> 03/14 -> 06/16.

Tried searching and was surprised not to spot a thread already from previous years, but I may have missed one.

Not sure about the 5JV, it'll be a bottling code for the bottling line run for that batch. I think the 3 character ones are old and the now use 2 lines on the bottle, the top line is usually long and starts with "L" and then a series of numbers which match to bottling days and times of the year. It's so they can keep track of batches in case there is a recall etc.

Not had a DE for a long time but the ones I've had have all been very good. Pretty sure they used to be 11yo (10yo with 1 year finishing in the wine cask).

I found this blog post, which is quite interesting, for those with any kind of cataloguing interest...

http://tjederswhisky.se/diageos-distillers-edition-series-an-attempt-at-a-complete-list/

It shows at least that the codes are nothing more than alphabetically/numerically increasing patterns, so I'm not sure why they choose to display them so prominently on the bottle and box, as if they have greater meaning. Probably to imply that very thing to the consumer! Smile
