Anybody tried all three in store at aldi? Speyside, highland, and islay? Now I've tried the speyside which I thought was dissapointing as the nose was awful but palate got slowly and I mean slowly better as I got down the bottle, now the islay I thought was a good one which surprised me as I'm not a peat smoke person but it defo got lots of smoke so be good the know what you islay experts think, I've got the highland here but not trying it until august so come on lads how did they fair?

I thought the Islay was very good for £18, the Highland was ok and easy to drink but not one I will repeat

I've had the limited rum cask finish one which is based on a Highland single malt and reviewed for my rum blog. It's OK.

You've got to take into account price with these. They are as cheaper as many blends and cheaper than stuff like JD etc. For the price I found it good. I'd imagine the rest of the line are the same (young and cheerful) in which case, price considered, they'll be about right.

Where does everyone think the Islay is from? I picked some up today and looking at the colour and smell my first guess is Laphroaig. It also tastes very similar to the 10 but a little more harsh. I'm thinking a younger cask?

What does everyone else think?

Last time I had the Glen Marnoch Islay I narrowed it done to 3 possibilities Laphroaig, Bowmore or a peated Bunnahabhain with me swaying towards it being a peated Bunna. If it is like other supermarket whiskies in the past it can vary from batch to batch.

I always wonder how they manage to keep bottlings like this which is bottled in such a large scale a secret.

It's heavily peated for sure and reminded me a bit of the old Black Bottle. I've not guessed what distillery it is but a young Caol Ila first popped into my mind. I'll crack one open later this year and spend some time with it.

My local aldi has mainly stocked the marnoch 12 speyside this Xmas with it being restocked every week or so and to be honest I'm glad they have, I think it's a wee cracker, anyone else had the pleasure? I sent my pal into his local aldi and it was stocked with the rum cask so he missed out .

Has anyone tried the "Glen Marnoch 28yo" please? I've heard tell that it is maybe a Glenfarclas, or perhaps a Mortlach.

Yes, and it's brilliant - if you like a big sherried whisky. I'm almost 100% sure it's a Mortlach. At £40 it's no-brainer of the year.

Thanks all! I've put a "Glen Marnoch 28yo" by for Christmas, but now tempted to crack it open.

Also, looking forward to sampling Aldi's "Grand Champagne 1989 Cognac".
