I see this one has become available here in Ontario. It appears to be highly rated. Anybody have a chance to try this one? The price tag of $200. CDN. dollars at the LCBO is certainly higher than the initial pricing in the UK. Comments welcome. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

After doing more research on this one, I decided to take the plunge and picked up one bottle of the Glenlivet Cipher today. They recently got in around 150 total bottles at the LCBO stores across all of Ontario and advertised as a "limited supply". Mine will be shelved away for now. Way too many open at the moment. With all you folks across the pond so very far away, so many thousands of miles, no one around here to help me make a dent in them.
By the way I noticed on one of the popular online whisky sites in the UK, a bottle of the Cypher recently went for £210.00, quite a bit more than the 118.85 British Pound equivalent I just paid today here in Ontario. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Just noticed that Jim Murray in the 2017 Whisky Bible selected this one as the best single malt scotch NAS multiple casks. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Opened this one up to celebrate new years. Most impressed with the nose on this one - found lots of nice notes. Palate was very creamy and I found the classic Glenlivet profile showing up.
On the finish I wanted more. Wasn't as complex here as I anticipated.
Will see how it unfolds after opening but initially not thinking it's as good as the 18 which is a favorite of mine. |

As I also shared a bottle with friends last night I agree. Not near as good as I was expecting.
Certainly not worth the Price tag here in Ontario. Glad I only had to pay for half the bottle.
The Macallan edition 2 is a much better Dram for less money. _________________ If Jack Bauer was gay, his name would be Chuck Norris |

I'll have to consider that one for next time around. I see our only store chain has increased prices on a few of the popular malts in the last few days .....
Upon re-taste and experimenting with a few drops of water water I'm afraid I haven't changed my opinion of this one. With water it does have an impressive nose and very creamy mouthfeel. Getting a lot of vanilla, honey, butterscotch which initially seems very promising.
However I pick up a bitter note late in the palate and on the finish which I can't seem to get past. Hoping it'll settle down after a few weeks but not so sure. |
