15 year old black bottle

Hi
Can anyone advise me of the valuation or where to obain a valuation of Gordon Graham & Co Black bottle whisy aged 15 years. I was given it as gift by a lady who worked ther 20 years ago. She said to hold on to it as it would be of value in the future?

Hi Elaine

Sorry you havent had a response sooner, i think many of the forum members are on holiday at the moment.

What i know about Black Bottle is that it was first created by C D & G Grahams who where tea blenders in Aberdeen in 1879. Black Bottle was then sold to Long John International in 1964. It was then acquired by Allied Lyons in 1990 and then sold on to Highland Distillers in 1995 and then in 2003 Burns Stewart Distillers bought it along with the Bunnahabhain distillery.

Therefore i would think the bottle you have was produced by the original owners before 1964. Does this tie in with the dates your friend worked their? It wil certainly be worth money i think but i wouldnt like to hazard a guess to how much as i have never saw an old bottling of Black Bottle available before. I suggest contacting a couple of the specialist whisky auctioneers such as Mctears in Glasgow or Bonhams in Edinburgh, they both hold a few specialist whisky auctions each year and they would know more about what you have and its potential value. Both auctioneers have a website where you can contact them.

I will try McTears. I was given the bottle when the company was Long John if I remember correctly. I reckon i got it around 1988 ish. the bottle doesn't match anything i see on the websites. Its a completly black bottle with bronze writing and Godon Graham name on the neck seal. I put it away and forgot about it. its still in its original packaging which again is a round solid package rather than the square boxes I see online.

Will keep you updated of my progress.
