Hi, not a scotch but a nice whiskey all the same - seen that these are going for a lot of money nowadays; bought mine about 5 years ago when prices were much saner.

Have you guys got any idea how much, realistically, one of these bottles is worth?

Scotch Whisky Auctions is usually a good gauge of what a bottle will sell for, the Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year old does vary quite a bit though, just your luck on the day at auction. A bottled fetched £80 a couple of weeks ago but some have sold for as high as £580. Have a look here: https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/auctions/search/?q=Old+Rip+Van+Winkle+10+year&area=&sort=mostrecent&order=asc&perpage=40

Okay cheers I'll take a look; why's it become so expensive? These used to be two a penny; easy to get hold of

It is certainly a very good bourbon IMO, not the most complex but it has developed a very good reputation amongst whisky drinkers who are willing to pay way over the top to get hold of a bottle. Top reviews from whisky critics such as Jim Murray have probably influenced the prices it sells for in the secondary market.
