While just replying on another thread it made me wonder how many of you have bought a bottle of (genuine) malt and then couldnt stomach it as it was that bad. if so what was it and under what circumstances, as i cant really say ive ever had anything i'd just throw away rather than eventually finish it myself.

I couldn't drink the Connemara Irish single malt, poured it down the sink after trying to like it and drinking quarter of the bottle. I can only describe it as having an off chemical note with some added peat. That was some time ago, perhaps it has improved now but you rarely hear it mentioned on these forums.

William Lawson's blend, without a doubt. Tried it and immediately poured the rest back in the bottle. I now only use it for cleaning my tools and cooking for people I dislike. I wouldn't serve a dram of it to my worst enemy though, not a chance!

I had a bottle of Abhainn Dearg single malt a few years back, which I’d been looking forward to trying simply because it was rather new and unusual. Unfortunately it tasted like pure alcohol that had been strained through a new clod of peat, which was subsequently drunk by a Highland coo that was addicted to aniseed cough sweets. After fermenting in its bladder for a few days it was bottled and sold to me. I tried to like it, taking several runs at it with a renewed positive mental attitude but it was a dead loss. Although since then it’s proved useful for cleaning my car windows.

I had a glenfiddich caoran reserve that was like licking an ashtray. It was vile. I have another bottle and have just been given a second as a gift. It really was foul, not sure about trying/wasting another bottle.

Dalmore 12. A good whisky, but performed well below it's price point.

Anything in duty free with no age on the bottle and a creative name to make it sound interesting. They become party drinks...
