Today I received a bottle of Tomintoul 14, and saw that the label now states "non chill-filtered' and 'high strength' where before it said 'non chill-filtered' and 'natural colour'. Does anyone know whether they add caramel colouring to the whisky now? I don't see why they would drop the statement on the label.

It is odd that they have removed the natural colour statement, you would assume from the move that they have added a touch of colouring. If they have added colouring it is not likely to be something they would announce.

My feelings exactly. I had a chat with customer service at MoM, who assured me it's just a change of packaging and that the whisky is the same, but I'm sceptical to be honest. The label is exactly the same other than the omission of the 'natural colour' statement', which isn't exactly a major redesign.

Very odd.. would assume it's still natural colour and maybe just a safety net incase they need to add in future..

it certainly sounds like they are now adding a bit of fake tan, perhaps their latest batch to come of age was a little pale

I contacted the distillery and they have confirmed that the most recent batch of Tomintoul 14 does indeed have caramel colouring. Pity - my bottle is going back now as it was bought on the understanding it didn't have any additives.

That is a pity they have made this move, they should really update their website which still states "Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 14 Years is a naturally coloured and unchillfiltered expression of our mellow and smooth malt."
