|
|
It seems Big Peat has come of age, as Glasgow independent bottler Douglas Laing has announced the launch of Big Peat 25 Year Old Gold Edition, the first expression in the Big Peat series to carry an age statement.
When they announced its release last week the folks at DL told me that the whisky contained, amongst others, those distilled at Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen, which certainly peaked my interest and my first question was - how much do you want for it?
They got back to me with an updated announcement which removed any reference to any distillery names, so I really can't say if there is any Ardbeg, Bowmore or Port Ellen 25 year old in the vatting although this info is already out there following their initial announcement but I can only assume by the fact that they withdrew the declaration of these three distilleries being in the whisky that they are NOT in the whisky. They told me that the price for the whisky is yet to be confirmed, but I will update you when I hear the price.

| It is very odd to launch a whisky but not reveal the price and I am sure if it contained 25 year old Port Ellen and Ardbeg this would influence what some people would be willing to pay for it. Strange that they disclose the whiskies which probably would be the most valuable of the Islay whiskies then they remove any reference to them, that shouldn't happen. |

Containing Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen whisky of 25 years and over would certainly make a difference to the value of this. Do marketing departments really make mistakes such as declaring certain whiskies are in a blended malt then withdraw that claim? It is hard to believe such a mistake would happen.
My guess would be the bulk of the whisky in the Big Peat 25 would likely be Caol Ila and peated Bunnahabhain |

Confusingly it still says on the Douglas Laing website news section that it contains Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen
| Quote: | | It is comprised of Islay’s most sought after Single Malts including, amongst others, those distilled at Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen. |
