I've been quite a fan of this range from An Cnoc - my favourite so far has been Flaughter. They do seem to sneak different expressions into particular markets and travel retail tho. Anyone heard of any expressions other than :

Stack (Eastern & Western Europe and Scandinavia)
Tushkar (Sweden)
Rudhan (Travel Retail)
Cutter
Flaughter
Rutter
Rascan
Peatlands (Eastern & Western Europe and Scandinavia)
Barrow (Travel Retail)

2005 Royal Mile Whiskies Exclusive Single Cask 58.1% (The first ever UK exclusive single cask of AnCnoc, 222 bottles)

At a glance I don't see any of the anCnoc Peaty expressions missing from your list. I have had the pleasure of all on your list except the Peatlands

They have all been consistent in quality, with the Cutter, Stack and Flaughter standing out for me, you can read my review of these here:

Surprisingly TWE still have some of the Flaughter available

The AnCnoc Stack released last year was very good, that was the last release I am aware of.

I got the info on the new anCnoc Peatheart the other day but haven't posted it yet as I am waiting on anCnoc verifying a few facts on it.

They have put a headline 40 PPM phenol on the bottle but this is actually the phenol content for the malted barley used to produce Peatheart. This differs from previous anCnoc Peaty releases which stated the phenol PPM of the distilled whisky you found in the bottle and they emphasised this in their marketing of these releases so now stating the phenol content of the barley used to create it could be a little misleading to some who will be expecting it to be peatier than it is.

It was my understanding that when the anCnoc Peaty range was launched it was made with barley with a phenol content of 45 PPM meaning this new whisky with a 40 PPM barley phenol content is possibly lighter than earlier anCnoc Peaty releases.

There are a couple of other queries that I am waiting for them getting back to me on. Although I am certain it will be another good whisky but maybe not as heavily peated as the marketing is making out.

I will update you when I get the facts from anCnoc

Thanks Smile

Kind of begs the question as to whether or not this is a new member of the range or a new range. I dislike it when brands go off-piste like this.

I am sure it will be in line with the quality of previous bottling in the range but it does look like they are trying to hype up the peat level in the whisky, it could be misleading to those who had the earlier bottling in the range

I have a bottle of the travel retail anCnoc Rudhan which is very good, it doesn't state the PPM on the bottle at all, I would guess it is around 15 PPM.

For the new Peatheart I can see how they want to use the big PPM figure of the malted barley just as most other whisky brands do that express a figure but they are a bit late doing it with this range and I do think they could mislead some who have had previous peaty collection bottlings, they will be expecting something very peaty in comparison to earlier peaty collection bottlings.

Well done William for picking up and highlighting this, I for one would have assumed that Peatheart was going to be the peatiest AnCnoc to date. We could do with some guidelines/rules for bottlers to follow when stating phenol PPM levels on a bottle

The article linked above suggests it was AnCnoc who were breaking ranks (there's nothing in place strong enough to be a rule as it stands) by choosing that measure and they've fallen back into line with the rest of the industry with Peatheart.
