|
|
I have received an email from Macallan to say they are releasing a 15 year old Gran Reserva and that there will be an online ballot to decide who can buy a bottle. I know that Macallan is deemed to be the pinnacle of single malt whisky but £495 seems an awful lot to me.......or is that just the state of the single malt whisky market these days??!! |

Jings is that the price?! I had an email too and replied to it so I could have my name in the hat for one of the limited bottles, however if that's what it costs then I may need to think again...
I guess any kind of limited edition Macallan is going to have the market attention to command a fee just shy of nearly £500. How naive I was! |

Are they having a laugh? Macallan is amazing, very very good! But £500 quid,
I’ve saved £500 from my birthday and I’ve worked out I can get a bottle of 28 Year Old Glen Mhor ( Rare Malts ) and a Single Cask Youngesh Sherry Bomb with change.... Christ you can get a single cask 40 Year Old Strathisla Book of Kells on TWE for that price |

I'm also guilty of entering the ballot without looking at the price.
Even now, £500 buys you a really classy whisky with money to spare. |

Lord, I've worked out you can buy a 21 yo Glendronach, 21 yo Redbreast and a Glengoyne 25 yo for that money.
You wouldn't have bragging rights though. |

It truly is ridiculous though. The Royal Wedding release from them back in 2011 was around the same age, limited to only 1000 bottles and yet only cost £150. How can they now justify £495 for this release?
I understand I may be simplifying it a bit, but I just think this is a canny move from Macallan as they know that it will sell more for its rarity than for its content. |

| A handful of distilleries now think they can fleece anyone who wants to buy the whisky.. The problem is, they are right !! People are still willing to pay stupid money for whisky that should be a fraction of the price.. |

At a pinch, "Macallan 15" might justify a £100 price tag.
So, what to do. Stick "Gran Reserva" at the end and add another 400 quid.
Simple. |

| Hopefully, your mate will be sensible enough to hit the 'Delete' button and buy some quality whisky with the money that he saves. |

| I don't think that terribly many people on this forum would be jealous of your friend swapping £500 for this bottling. But hey, each to their own. |
