I recently stumbled across a bottle of single malt (Highland Park 21) which had become lost when I moved to a new home in 2012. Its been in my basement in a sealed since 2012 and was found on the weekend after a bit of a flood in my basement.
I am interested in your thoughts on this before I open it?
Its value? I understand its discontinued |

There was a Highland Park 21 year old in the 1980's which was bottled at 43% ABV, if you have a bottle of this it could be quite valuable today.
The Highland Park 21 year old travel retail/duty free exclusive bottling was first launched back in 2007 and was bottled at 47.5% ABV and was an outstanding whisky.
In 2009 due to stock shortages they reduced the strength to 40% ABV, although they kept the same selection of cask types for the 21 year old it was not as good as the previous 47.5% ABV version.
In 2012 the strength was returned to 47.5% ABV.
In more recent times (not sure exactly when) the Highland Park 21 year old has been discontinued.
Obviously the value of your bottle will depend on its condition, fill level, does it have the tube/box and when was it bottled and its ABV. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Hey thanks for the information. Its a 47.5 from 2012. The only reason I wanted to know its value was so I can decide if it should be a special occasion when I decide to open it. It sounds like something I will share with my friends when the time is right.

Have a nearly empty bottle left. No expert so can't give notes etc. but it's a cracker and your friends/family should thank you for sharing.
Got one left unopened. Keep or open? Hmmmmmm! |

| To answer your question. Paid 110ish for it. Dear dilemma, a nice dram to let go, but if someone else appreciates it more etc. |

You said yourself it was a nice one, so save it for yourself or just crack it open and carry on where you left off with the last one.
I recently did a H2H and thought quality to price ratio (todays prices) the 18 year was a little better but for 110 that was good money for sure. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

| I make you right Imp. Will probably drink. Got the HP cheap at the time. It's the old old "What You paid Vs What it's potentially worth now" dilemma. |

Trust me it's only a dilemma if you make it one? _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

| So we cracked this bottle on the weekend and enjoyed some of it. It is like nothing I have tasted before, very complex flavor combonation. It certainly has a smokey peat flavor and something else I can't put my finger one. It is going to require some more savoring to acquire its full bouquet. It also turned out to be a 2011 vintage. |
