Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Canadian Whisky 44.4%ABV

This is my first taste of this highly touted Canadian whisky so I decided to post my taste notes from today.

Color: Amber

Nose: Pungent sponge candy and sweet potato pie from the get-go enter the olfactory scene. Corn flakes cereal and honey add to the occasion with secondary floral hues. Toffee and burnt orange sugar and burnt almonds complement along with salted cashews. Dried apricots provide an added intensity. The sweetness perseverates with an almost subliminal black Australian licorice. Freshly peeled baby carrots and pickled artichoke hearts, early morning bakery, caramelized Vidalia onions and mashed Prince Edward Island potatoes all come in with a late flourish.

Taste: Full-bodied, syrupy and luscious with thick amber honey, spice and a cracker chewy oaky layer that really satisfies.

Finish: Long, smoky black licorice, drying, library leather, fireplace notes, "charred top" creme brulee, and dark toffee dripping over salted assorted nuts.

Comments: The layers of fruit, candy, veggies and cereal on the nose are brilliant. The palate kicks it up a notch and the finish closes the deal.
