Anyone tried Auchentoshan American Oak? It appears to be heavily discounted on amazon at the moment but reviews are mixed. I also prefer an age statement but understand why this isn't always used! I'm not convinced about oak casks either having recently tried, and not particularly liked, a Deanston oak. Worth a punt though at this price?

It is an easy drinking young whisky, citrusy, creamy vanilla and oak spice. for the price it is a decent enough dram IMO It is not a regular of mine and will never be even when discounted

Its ok, is the best I can say about it, an easy drinking crowd pleaser which does have a youthfulness about it which is no surprise given it has NAS and its price.

I have a friend who refers to Auchentoshan as the whisky for non whisky drinkers, although I do not totally agree as they have released some superb older stuff.

When it first came out I did enjoy the bottle as very easy drinker, then a year later it wasn't all that, don't think I'd bother again as so much better out there for the same price.

griffin79 it is a nice enough easy drinker particularly for the summer weather, not the most complex of flavoursome dram but that is what you get in this price range.

As with a fewAuchentoshan expressions these days the American oak is a basic entry level whisky that is almost designed to take a mixer or based as a bar dram.. unfortunately due to the distilleries light profile many people overlook the expressions as bland or very little flavour and this bottle does nothing to dispel those thoughts.. It’s place is simple.. pour it, drink it, don’t overthink it..

It tastes like breakfast cereal. I mean that in a good way. It is a nice light Scotch.

It's a very average malt, nothing special, but for the price I suppose you can't grumble, now the Auchentoshan Three Wood is a superb malt, in my Top 10 and this is often discounted on Amazon, keep looking

I think it's a nice light scotch. It's ok neat, easy to drink, and a good introduction to the non-scotch drinker. It's also cheap enough that I don't mind mixing. It goes great with ginger beer and a lime.

Ralfy, what would you recommend over Aushantoshan American Oak in the same price range? |
