|

Glenfiddich Winter Storm 21 year old single malt is the third release in the Speyside distillery's Experimental Series which was launched last year. What makes this new 21 year old expression experimental is that it has been finished for six months in French oak casks which previously contained Peller Estates Icewine which is a unique intensely sweet flavoured wine produced in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Of course the new Glenfiddich Winter Storm is not the first Icewine finished single malt whisky, Canadian distillery Glenora in Nova Scotia previously produced the Glen Breton Icewine barrel finished 12 year old single malt whisky and they now produce the Glen Breton 10 Year Old Ice which is available at MoM for a slightly cheaper price of £49.57 if you wish to sample an icewine finished whisky you will find the Glen Breton 10 Ice here:

| William the Glen Breton 10 Year Old Ice looks interesting, I looked it up in the Whisky Bible and Jim Murray has given it a very good write up so I am sure if the icewine casks are that good the Glenfiddich Winter Storm could be very good, of course that is what you will pay the big money for. |

Interesting. I felt it was quite steep when compared with the 21yr Rum finish which can be had for £110. Also a big jump from experiments 1 & 2. Curious too that this one comes in a box and not a tube which spoils the aesthetic of the series for anyone looking to collect them all. Bottle is lovely tho. |

The Glenfiddich Experimental Series IPA Experiment and Project XX (pronounced twenty) are set to be rolled out to global travel retail from November 2017. The recently released third whisky in the Experimental Series The Glenfiddich Winter Storm 21 Year Old which I mentioned above will join the travel retail line up in 2018.

It's on a 2 phase release - I think the initial Glenfiddich allocation has sold through, but it's yet to appear at retailers. Next phase was early next year IIRC. |

| Managed to taste a wee dram of this at my local Whisky bar. I found it to be very much of the Glenfiddich house style but not offering anything of particular interest. Certainly very smooth and drinkable with light hints of fruit, but I was struggling to detect the sweetness and richer charcteristics reviews / press have highlighted. |

| A second batch of this is on the way. Nickolls & Perks are currently taking pre-orders and is also available to order on the Glenfiddich website. |
