Another committee release today at 10am from ardbeg

What’s everyone’s thoughts on paying around £420 for a 22 year old ardbeg which again says limited release but never tell you just how limited it is

Last years release was 23 year old and from What I can see gets great reviews

440 quid. Will pass I think. Stingy ABV too.

COLOUR
Pale Gold

AROMA
Luscious tropical fruits give way to sweet smoke, soot and tar.

TASTE
At first, smoked apple with a crumble topping. Notes of peppermint tea and sweet vanilla toffee flow into white pepper, clove, aniseed and eucalyptus oil. Then finally, some salty, woody tones.

FINISH
A very long, lingering, mouth-watering sweet smoke finish.

ABV: 46.4%

Yeah, I've waited in the cue just to see how much it is, I'm going to pass on this one.

Yes true and as these are priced to be collectable rather than to be drunk I think they may have tipped the balance with this and it may be slow to sell.

The last one did take longer to sell than normal. It still sold out online in about 10 days leaving only a little stock at Embassies and the Distillery.

The market does seem to be of the opinion that they are a bit pricey but it's still pretty much the most affordable way into an OB, age statement Ardbeg north of 20yrs.

Got to try this at the distillery yesterday, wasn't expecting to but they noticed my birthday badge and brought a complimentary dram over. It was lovely, I tried a number of cask strength Laphroaigs and Ardbegs over the course of the day but that was the probably my favourite. I'd be lying if I said I could describe it in any great detail, and wouldn't pay for a bottle, but it was very tasty. On a side note, they mentioned that last week they sold the last distillery bottle of Grooves, which is a pity as I'd been hoping to pick one up while I was here.

Used to buy limited edition Ardbeg to drink regularly over the years, but at £440 a pop, this is probably the bottle which has broke the camels back in regard to drinking this type of bottle for many.

Out of curiosity I checked the site tonight. They still have stock left. Not surprised tbh.

Of the the flipped bottles at auction I've seen, 2 went for 400, 2 at 440 and 1 at 480. So most flippers would have lost money (oh my heart bleeds for them).

Looks like they still have stock, received an email today reminding me that this was ‘the last opportunity to buy’. I’d probably pull the trigger on one of those signatory 30th anniversary releases if I was going to spend £440 on something currently.

Also received that email. Still not interested in paying £440.
