Just had a tour. 12.50 each although we did find a half price voucher in a free western lakes leaflet.
Very young distillery...well brand new.
Theyre offering à founders membership for nearly 700pound. You get a bottle delivered every year for the next 10 year.
As the first 3 are actually spirit with only the last year a 10 yr old i thought it a rather big ask and declined.
They distill gin and vodka too.
I can see what tyey are trying to do and it will take time and at the moment its just a novelty tourist attraction. Anyone else been?
Hint join online and order a bottle. The next day you can pick it up 10pound off. |

Did I hear my name 😂😂😂
The distillery is just about to release the first spirit for the founders, yes it is 1 year old and is all bourbon.. As mentioned the founders £695, was £595, you get 10 bottles, one from each of the first 10 years production, which if the spirit/whisky is good then you will have a rather nice collection and possibly worth a fair bit more, you also get two 5cl samples with each bottle so 20 in all, plus I believe 2free tours per year and also invited to the founders day which you get looked after very well.. Is it worth it.. In my opinion yes.. It is not just bottles you get but you will be a member of hopefully something great.. The distillery is set in beautiful settings and is a very pleasant day out, the staff are very friendly and John the manager is extremely approachable.. So is the spirit any good.. Well I don't know.. The new make is very drinkable ( review on blog ) I will be reviewing the 1st spirit once I get hold of some.. The distillery is only small but has big plans.. They are currently maturing spirit in bourbon, oloroso, px and red wine casks, not sure what others they have but I know they are looking at things.. I have written a review of my visits on blog. Hope this helps 👠|

Bassenthwaite i believe.....i just stumbled on it. Hit keswick from the east and keep going till you hit the signs.
The taster was a little harsh.....and thats as far as you get tasting notes from me
The tour was .....brief, turns out the normal one was on his break so we got a lady from the shop with her que cards.....didnt know about cooourings or any chill filtered. They do send stuff away to be stored, so perhaps they do have some quantity put away.
Think theyve along way to go but i'll wait until its a few years old first. The wife swore by the gin thouvh. |

From The Lakes website
| Quote: | | Most of the malt whisky we will produce will be lightly peated, so more akin to the whiskies from the highlands rather than Islay, although we do plan to run some batches of a more heavily peated malt each year. |
Makes sense I suppose as young peaty whisky from new start up distilleries in recent times seems to sell easily and at a premium price. |

Suprised to hear your tour was brief, I went on it and it was a good length, there is more than one guide so don't know what happened there.. Your taster would have been the blend offering so not actually spirit made by them..
As for the spirit I'm not sure where it says it is lightly peated but I'm confident in saying it is not peated.. The blend may have some peated malt in but that's it.. I believe there may be plans to use ex casks that have held peated whisky but that's it.. I might be wrong.. I'll re check |

| Just checked with the distillery manager and to date no peated whisky has been produced. And at moment none is planned for near future but it might happen somewhere in future.. Info on site is from Paul himself and was an early plan but no longer applicable.. I'm sure they will look into it.. |

| Theve just released a limited edition quatrefoil collection of four bottles looks nice but at 850 pounds a bit steep 3500 bottles released so not very rare. I do have three bottles of the founder members whisky so may be tempted to go for the quatrefoil we shall see. |
