Macallan 1950 bottled 1981 43% OB for Matthew Clark

This is a good example of an aged Macallan from years gone by, the profile is quite unique for the period and displays why Macallan was so well regarded, 30 years maturation no problem.

Nose
This smells old, dusty oaky & nutty those are my first impressions of this.
Old dusty library bookshelves, old sun bleached paper, the fruit is well and truly in the background mainly hints of fig, perhaps a little mango?
After the air has got to it there is a change as some dark fruit blancmange notes emerge but then something meaty also hat I can only describe as savoury mince.
A different nose but still nice.
It does improve with air and wood polish emerges.

Taste
Creamy on custard cream biscuits , this taste old, it slightly woody, with a little fruit and a few nutty notes. On the whole it is pretty balanced.
There is plenty of caramel and cream on show with a dash of peat, fruit is difficult to define maybe a hint of apple, plum, possibly dried apricot.

Finish
Gets a little dry, slightly thin but seems to increase in power with a little spice
