| Selling the above (which I think retails at a little over £500). It's from a competition (can't say which one!) and is completely sealed and presented in a very smart box. Someone has stuck a white label over the proper label on the bottle - might come of easy - might ruin the label - don't know. I've never sold an expensive bottle of whisky before so not sure how best to carry out the transaction - would appreciate some advice on this generally - I use ebay a lot so could certainly do it through that if that's allowed, not sure! I'm looking for sensible offers so feel free to direct message me or whatever to discuss. |

Hi
I would say you have a few options, one option would be to sell it at auction McTears in Glasgow and Bonhams in Edinburgh hold a few auctions per year specialising in rare and collectable whisky.
Another option is as you mentioned - ebay. ebay can quite often get you more for your whisky, sometimes coming close to the shop retail price just depends on the day and the bidders. ebay does have certain rules you must follow when selling alcohol related items, it is the container you are selling not the contents. Here is some info on listing whisky on ebay: | Quote: | As this is an alcohol related listing please read the following information:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS AUCTION IS STRICTLY BY EBAY RULES AND IT IS THE BOTTLE YOU ARE PURCHASING AND NOT THE CONTENTS, WHICH ARE ENTIRELY COINCIDENTIAL TO THIS PURCHASE.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE RULES BELOW BEFORE BIDDING. I WILL TAKE ALL REASONABLE STEPS TO ENSURE THAT THE PURCHASER IS OF LEGAL AGE
This is a sale of a Collectable Container.
eBay will permit sales of unopened collectable containers that still contain alcohol as long as each of the following conditions are met:
1. The value of the listed item is in the collectible container, not its
contents.
2. The container is sealed and has not been
opened, and any incidental contents are not intended for
consumption.
3. The item is not be available at any retail outlet, and the
container has a value that substantially exceeds the current
retail price of the alcohol in the container.
4. As the seller, I will take steps to ensure that the buyer of the
collectible container is of lawful age in the buyer and seller's
jurisdiction (18 years old in the UK) the sale complies with any and all
applicable laws and delivery regulations in carrying out the
transaction
| If you look through a few auctions on ebay you will get the idea on how to list your whisky if that is what you decide.
Another option is The Whisky Exchange who also buys rare and collectable whisky as well as selling it. The Suntory Hakushu 25 Year old is selling for £539 on there website at the moment but remember this price includes duty, taxes and the shop has to make a profit so i would say they may offer in the region of £250 which i would guess is pretty close to what you would make at auction or on ebay after you take the costs off.
Not sure about the label over the original label it may put a lot of people off and may seriously affect the bottles value. To be honest it would put me off.
