An exasperating problem that can happen with a new bottle of whisky is when the cork breaks upon first opening for no obvious reason and bits of cork get into the bottle. Finally, I found a workable solution. I purchased stainless steel straws of various length and thickness used to siphon out bits of cork of different size and depth in the bottle. It works fantastic and feels like siphoning out of a cask. Winkhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/71xzdgiirWkXSkgh9

I like to use tea bags, providing you can find one that fits the bottle.

Take a tea bag, and using a pair of scissors, cut one side off and empty the tea out of the bag.

Take the empty bag and fit it over the top of the bottle.

Pour the bottle contents through the empty tea-bag into a spare jug/bottle.

The cork is collected in the teabag, which you then dispose of.

Up to you if you decide to put the contents back in the same bottle or not.

Good method, i will have to remember that.

a few weeks ago i had the cork break in a new bottle of deanston 18. i couldnt get enough purchase to use a wine cork remover so had to cut it out bit by bit, but got the inevitable bits in the bottle, and and what i did was use a funnel i have with a 200mesh strainer, and although it got the bigger bits out and most of the smaller ones i wasnt convinced it got all the very fine dusty bits

the only other time a can remember having the problem was on a bottle of vintage port i bought in a sale before i had the strainer, and i used kitchen roll in a funnel, but when you think about it a teabag would have been so much better - wonder why i didnt think of it myself !!

thanks

Bob
