Storting to delve inte the history of Bowmore distillery`s history and was hoping that the forum could help me out. I have gathered quite a bit of info but it is possible that I have missed the most trivial of information, so every bit of info on this distillery you have would be gratefully appreciated. Links to internet sites or a PM please

I would suggest that you would probably get more responses from Forum members if you just tell us what sorts of things you would like to know about Bowmore on this thread rather than DM so people would know what is being shared. I was at Bowmore Distillery in June 2019 and was impressed with the place and the town of Bowmore as well. Cheers. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Thanks for your reply. Looking more specifically for anything pre 1963. I know that doesn’t narrow it down too much but hopefully somebody has something I don’’t yet know to share. |

There is a soft covered book entitled Peat, Smoke and Spirit, A Portrait of Islay and its Whiskies 2004 by Andrew Jefford.... pages 106-124 have a tremendous amount of historical information on the Bowmore Distillery including some lesser known information about the early ownership, issues and changing of hands among many other things. You may appreciate the book if you can find it as quite revealing. I enjoy my copy. Cheers. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Is this what you are after:1779 - Bowmore distillery was founded by David Simpson
1816 – John Simpson applies for a license to distil at Bowmore
1837 – Bowmore was sold to Glasgow whisky blending company James and William Mutter
1892 – Bowmore is sold to some English businessmen and becomes the Bowmore Distillery Company Ltd
1925 – J B Sheriff takes over Bowmore
1929 - DCL (Distillery Company Limited) takes over
1950 – William Grigor & Son takes over
1963 – Stanley P Morrison purchase Bowmore and forms Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd
1989 – Japanese whisky company Suntory buys a 35% share in Bowmore
1994 – Suntory now owns 100% of Bowmore
2014 – Suntory buys American whisky company Beam and becomes Beam Suntory meaning Bowmore and Laphroaig are now owned by the same company.
