Ooof, nasty. Delivered via Amazon following a recommendation from A N Other source - I was hoping for sweetness and honey and nuts and caramel and niceness but I got TCP and creosote. A visiting nurse (she came for a BBQ, not to administer medicine) said that she could potentially use this as a disinfectant and felt that the 43% rating would be sufficient to clean even the dirtiest of surfaces.
I'm thinking that I might use it as screenwash in the car when the frosts return, hope it doesn't rot the plastic pipes. |

| It sounds like you were not expecting the peat smoke, it is part of the Benromach style. |

| For that matter, most whisky can be used as disinfectant - it doesn't have to smell like one, too :D |

| Same really like Benromach as well. Havent had it in a while, but remember it being really heavy on the peat also, even tho it is described as subtle on most reviews/ tasting notes. |

Everything is subjective I suppose and the first release of fumes from a new bottle is always likely to be a bit heady so I went back to the Ben last night for another go but it's no better. How anyone can get any pleasure from drinking this is beyond me. I even tried it with lemonade, but it got worse... ice didn't help, ginger ale, getting a bit mashed by then... mixed with a random selection from the cabinet just produced a green fug in the glass and eventually it cracked the sink when I poured it away. This morning, however, my toilet is sparkly clean, my liver on the other hand... |

Peated whisky is something very love-it-or-hate-it. Clearly you're not on the love-it side and that's totally cool. Also bear in mind peated whisky doesn't necessarily mean TCP, there are other declinations of peated whisky with no medicinal aspects to them at all that you might want to explore, even just to broaden your knowledge.
And even if you also don't like those, the world of whisky is broad and varied, there's a world of non-peated stuff for you to enjoy.
Without trying nor wanting to sound condescending / paternalising, consider that you're in a forum mostly populated not by weekend Jack & Coke drinkers, but by the most hardcore whisky nerds who like to exchange views on aspects of whisky most people ignore and/or are simply not interested in.
Coming here and Saying that Benromach 10 is more suitable for screenwash and toilet cleaning doesn't exactly going to give an impression of someone interested in understanding whisky beyond the above mentioned J&C paradigm, thus you might find your discovery journey less enjoyable as people might be less inclined to lend you ear and share opinions. I personally don't mind, thus why I'm happy to reply regardless, but some others might do. |

Also bear in mind that your taste is going to change over time and I've spoken to people and have one very close friend who couldn't stand peated whisky but eventually came around to liking them. I've also spoken to people who used to love peated whisky but gradually lost the preference for them and stuck solely to non-peated whisky.
Always be open to trying any kind of whisky if you're in a context where you don't have to pay anything significant for the pleasure of potentially broadening your horizons. Like at a whisky festival or round a friend who has an extensive collection, because you never know!
