| Can anybody tell me if the glenlivit 18 at 40 per cent is as good as the 43 per cent version from 2019 when I tasted it last? |

No real surprises, really. The new 40% ABV version is pretty much what you’d expect compared with the older 43% bottling. It still has some lovely honey, citrus and vanilla notes, along with pleasant oak and sherry character. However, compared with the old 18 year old at 43%, I find the newer version has a slightly thinner mouthfeel, is less intense overall, has less pronounced sherry influence and finishes a little shorter, with less impact.
Don't get me wrong, the Glenlivet 18 is still a good whisky, but in my opinion it’s not quite the whisky it used to be. I've only bought a couple of bottles since the reduction in ABV. Previously, it was a whisky I would pretty much always have a bottle of on the go. I suppose that's their loss! |
