The first legally produced drams in the Western Isles for almost 170 years were rolled out yesterday.
Two casks of spirit were handed over to the local community near Uig on the west coast of Lewis and to a German importer who it is hoped will become a major customer.
Despite the low-key ceremony, it was a red letter day for the Abhainn Dearg Distillery, which was set up by local businessman Marko Tayburn in 2008.
Yesterday's product cannot be referred to as Scotch until it has been matured in a cask for three years in Scotland.
But Mr Tayburn says the first bottles of single malt will be produced in time for next year's Royal National Mod - known as the Whisky Olympics - when it visits Stornoway.
It does seem to be the trend now, new distilleires selling spirit. I suppose it gives them a cash injection and publicity ahead of the first whisky release, good luck to them.
