Hi all

I have been given a bottle of Glenmorangie Millennium Malt 12 year old and was wondering if anyone here was familiar with it. I was wondering if it is any good or perhaps it is valuable (as the person who gave me it thought it may be) and i should not drink it.

Thanks Grant

Hi Grant as you probably know from the bottle/box the Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Millennium Malt was matured only in first fill bourbon casks (not normal for Glenmorangie), this was a special bottling to mark the millennium. It was a limited release and there will be very few around now 10 years after its release. So it will be considered rare and collectable now. I have seen it in some whisky shops recently selling for £100. I would say it is a bottle that could increase in value in the future so may be worth holding onto.

Having said that if you want to drink it you will not be disappointed. I actually had a couple of bottles of it when it was released (i meant to drink one and keep one but drunk both as i enjoyed it) and i recall it was a very good dram, different from the usual Glenmorangie as it was matured in first fill casks, i recall it was similar to Glenmorangies Cellar 13.

I have a bottle of this still tucked away in the cupboard. I had noticed that it is now around £100 in the whisky shops. Both Michael Jackson and Jim Murray rated it quite highly in their tasting for the whisky magazine when it was released. Royal Mie Whiskies have it listed in their Whiskies for the Cellar section which is the section of their site they think are collectable and will increase in value in the future. I am keeping mine tucked away for a few years yet.

Hi Grant, as William and Andy said it is considered a decent dram and you are sure to enjoy it if you open it. Its value has already increased from £20 something when it was new to £100. Glenmorangie is one of the more popular iconic malt whisky brands and they do not release that many bottlings in such limited amounts such as this so i would think that its value will continue to rise.
