Glasgow Distillery has unveiled
three limited-edition single malt
whiskies, each finished in rare wine
casks, as the latest releases in its
acclaimed Small Batch Series. These new
expressions not only highlight the
distillery’s dedication to innovation
but also the variety within its single
malt portfolio.
The trio includes one peated and two
unpeated 5 Year Old single malts, each
matured for an additional one year and
ten months in unique wine casks,
resulting in distinctive and complex
flavour profiles.
Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask
Matured is an unpeated single malt that
has been finished in South African
Constantia dessert wine casks. This cask
is s said to have imparted vibrant notes of fresh apricot,
peach, pink grapefruit, and clementine,
balanced by rich manuka honey and dark
chocolate, enhancing the whisky’s
natural fruit-forward character. Bottled
at 56.6% ABV, only 980 bottles are
available.
Glasgow 1770
Syrah Wine Cask Matured,
the second unpeated expression, has been
finished in Greek Syrah red wine casks
from the island of Evia. The result is
said to be a
whisky brimming with bold notes of
blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam,
and black cherry, layered with dark
chocolate and a touch of pink
peppercorn, complementing its smooth
vanilla and caramel base. This edition
is bottled at 59.3% ABV and limited to
just 652 bottles.
The only peated release in the line-up,
Glasgow 1770 Pineau des Charentes Wine
Cask Matured, features malted barley
infused with rich mainland peat smoke.
Initially aged in first-fill ex-bourbon
barrels, it was then transferred to a
French Pineau des Charentes wine cask,
which they say has added complex layers of toffee apple,
maple smoked ham, walnut, orange zest,
and a floral green peppercorn spice.
Bottled at 58.7% ABV, this bold and
smoky expression is available in an
exclusive release of just 303 bottles.
Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow
Distillery, commented: "At The Glasgow
Distillery, we are always looking for
ways to push boundaries and explore new
dimensions of flavour. These three
releases showcase the remarkable impact
that different wine casks can have on
our whisky, bringing bold and gratifying
flavour characteristics.
"Having recently celebrated 10-years of
whisky production, it seems fitting to
release perhaps our most experimental
whiskies yet whilst reflecting on a
decade of innovation, craftsmanship, and
dedication to creating exceptional
single malts."
These three unique expressions will
launch in both the UK and Germany
tomorrow, Tuesday, 13th May. In the UK,
each bottling will be available at a
recommended retail price of £59 from specialist online whisky
shops such as
