The
GlenAllachie has announced the launch of
the launch of the latest batch of their
GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength
Batch 6. With their fourth batch of
their 10 Year Old Cask Strength batch
series having recently scooped the
ultimate accolade of the 'World's Best
Single Malt' at the World Whiskies
Awards 2021, the bar has certainly been
set high as they introduce this sixth
instalment of the cask strength dram.
This latest instalment was matured in a
combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso
sherry puncheons along with a small
quantity of Virgin Oak and Rioja casks,
all personally selected by Master
Distiller, Billy Walker. The resulting
whisky is said to be bursting with
indulgent notes of sticky honey, warming
mocha, orange peel and spicy cinnamon.
Commenting on this latest batch release,
Master Distiller Billy Walker revealed,
"The delicious whisky we bottle as our
10 Year Old Cask Strength really is
testament to our wonderful team and the
excellent wood we source. Like all
previous batches, I know this batch
won’t disappoint!"
Bottled at a cask strength of 57.8% ABV
this unchilfiltered and naturally
coloured dram is a limited release of
just 6,500 cases worldwide and will soon
be available from specialist online
whisky retailers such as
The Whisky Exchange and
Master of Malt

Note this is a review of Batch 1.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Sweet honey and vanilla toffee infused
with a touch of orange, a hint of
cinnamon and oak spice hiding in the
background.
Taste:
A honey coated mix of apple, orange and
raisin leads, followed closely by some
vanilla toffee,
cocoa and a little vibrant fresh
oak spice.
Finish:
The honeyed sweetness gives way to some
dark chocolate and oak, it then bitters
out rather quickly. Mildly drying.
Comment:
For all its strength it bitters out
quickly but it is is a joy on the nose
and in the mouth while it lasts. I would
love to see them turning up the sherry
cask contribution on the next batch,
still a fantastic introduction to the
Glenallachie. On my first taste of this
I had scored it 84 but I have now been
back to it a few times, in fact I have
almost got through a whole bottle in the
past month and have upped my rating a
little.
SMW Score 87/100
