GlenAllachie
launches a new limited-edition series
called Sinteis (pronounced 'sin-teesh')
which launches with a GlenAllachie 2014
Chinquapin & Pedro Ximénez Cask Matured
single malt.
Following its recent win as World’s Best
Single Malt for its 12-year-old
expression, The GlenAllachie has
unveiled a new limited-edition series
called Sinteis (pronounced “sin-teesh”)
which launches with a GlenAllachie 2014
Chinquapin & Pedro Ximénez Cask Matured
single malt.
Taking its name from the Scottish Gaelic
word for "synthesis," the Sinteis range
celebrates the art of blending distinct
influences, captured in the tagline:
"Two distinct casks. One harmonious
synthesis."
Led by Master Distiller Billy
Walker—whose 53 Year career to date
spans some of the most iconic names in
Scotch—the independent Speyside
distillery continues its innovative
approach with this new release.
The first expression, Sinteis Part I, a
2014 vintage single malt with a UK RRP
of £74.99 was matured in a unique
combination of Chinquapin virgin oak and
first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry
puncheons. Personally hand-selected by
Walker from a vast inventory of 50,000
casks housed across 16 on-site
warehouses, the chosen barrels highlight
his expertise in wood management.
Chinquapin oak, native to the Ozark
region of Missouri, are said to lend
notes of sweet spice and aniseed, while
the PX Sherry casks are said to bring
depth with flavours of dark chocolate
and rich, ripe fruits.
Presented in striking packaging by
Scottish designer Kayley Barbour, the
carton features a foil-embellished,
hand-drawn symbol representing the
fusion of different wood types. Bottled
at its natural cask strength of 57.8%
ABV, Sinteis Part I is non-chill
filtered and free of added colouring,
staying true to the distillery’s
commitment to authenticity.
Commenting on the launch, Walker shares:
"The team and I are thrilled to bring
this alluring new series, with its
unique concept, to curious whisky
drinkers around the world. The concept
allows me, as a blender, the creative
freedom to think up something out of the
ordinary.
"For this first release, I set out to
make virgin oak – a relatively uncommon
wood type for maturation – more
approachable and appealing to a broader
audience through carefully considered
blending. Combining the familiar profile
of Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks with the
intriguing contribution of the
Chinquapin virgin oak makes for a
delicious, multifaceted drinking
experience. It truly is a synthesis of
the bold and the beloved."
Priced at a UK RRP of £74.99, The
GlenAllachie 2014 Chinquapin & Pedro
Ximénez Cask Matured is now available at
the distillery’s visitor centre and
online shop. Wider international
availability will follow and you will
soon find it available from specialist online whisky
