New Look For The GlenDronach Set To Raise Expectations

24th July 2024
The GlenDronach has unveiled a new look for its core range of sherry influenced single malt whiskies and the new look and relaunch is set to highlight this Spanish sherry influence.

Raise Expectations - The GlenDonach

The GlenDronach is poised to captivate a new generation of discerning customers with its refreshed packaging and an innovative creative campaign, narrating a tale of duality where the robust Highland spirit merges with Spanish flair to create a sherry crescendo like no other.

This relaunch signifies a major transformation for The GlenDronach Scotch single malt whisky brand. The new prestigious design showcases an elegant, timeless aesthetic, emphasising the brand's dedication to excellence. This updated look blends tradition with modern luxury, creating a distinctive and compelling visual identity, enhancing the whisky's visual appeal to both new and existing whisky drinkers.

The distillery celebrated the re-staging in collaboration with Scottish-born photographer and director Rankin, renowned for capturing the essence and spirit of his subjects. Rankin and his team travelled to the distillery to capture the balance of tradition and imagination inherent in The GlenDronach through moving images. The new campaign, featuring solo Spanish and flamenco dancer Rocio Dusmet Orellana within the distillery, creates a visual metaphor that highlights the unique fusion of two worlds, redefining the brand’s image.

Rankin, photographer and director, commented: "I just loved the initial idea. I know the whisky sector well and this felt genuinely different and exciting to me. I also thrive off creating cultural collisions and finding beauty in the tensions they bring, plus, as a Scot by birth, the idea of bringing Flamenco to the Highlands stirred passion in me that I just couldn't resist."

Rachel Barrie, The Glendronach Master Blender said: "For me, The GlenDronach is a surprise, a revelation and a flavour crescendo. At first taste, it has this amplification that’s so much richer than your expectations, and our philosophy is just that – to raise expectations in Single Malt by creating the most exceptional sherried whisky. And we are now setting a new standard to match the exquisite nature of the spirit with reimagined visuals.

"Rankin’s signature style worked harmoniously in magnifying the luxurious and flamboyant nature of The GlenDronach. He has beautifully captured the delicate balance of tradition and imagination inherent in our single malt, encapsulating the duality of robust Highland spirit and Spanish flair - a balanced dance - the end result is bold and it crescendos to a revelation in flavour; just like the liquid."

As part of the reimagined design, a curated brand pattern featuring the bramble and rooks that surround and protect the distillery has been introduced, paying homage to its namesake; 'GlenDronach' means 'Valley of the Brambles' in Scots Gaelic.

New look GlenDronach 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old

While the aesthetic has evolved, the award-winning GlenDronach core whisky portfolio remains unchanged, continuing to mature in rare Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks from Andalucia, Spain. The permanent range of Single Malts—12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, and 18 Year Old—will be the first to debut this new chapter.

The GlenDronach core portfolio will be available in the new packaging globally, launching in specific markets starting this July 2024. Later this year, the portfolio will expand with the release of the Master's Anthology, comprising three expressions, and additions to the ultra-premium core range, including 21, 30, and 40-Year-Old releases.

GlenDronach 12 Year Old Review

Bottled at 43% ABV.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Lovely enticing sherried fruit, dark cherries. orange, also some ripe pear, a nice touch of vanilla sweetness. Dark chocolate ginger biscuit.

Taste: A deliciously rich smooth delivery of lovely sherried fruit - raisins and sultanas, orange, a light sweet vanilla sweetness peaks through from behind the lovely fruit and a wee touch of cloves hiding there also, nutmeg and then the appearance of cinnamon and dry ginger and a light dusting of pepper.

Finish: A medium length finish were the fruit fades quickly leaving a little peppery spice and mildly drying oak.

Comment: Delicious, this is simply one of the best quality core range sherried Speyside drams of this age that you can buy, if you haven't yet tried this then why not! A lovely well balanced dram for the sherry oak lovers, full of flavour and I guarantee if you like this style of whisky, once you taste this you will always want to have a bottle in the cupboard. I could only imagine that this would be simply stunning if bottled at a slightly higher strength but at 43% it is still full of flavour and an outstanding dram. The finish could be longer but easily remedied with another mouthful.

SMW Score 90/100

GlenDronach 15 Year Old Review

Bottled at 46% ABV.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Butterscotch, dark cherry and blackberries, orange and a little nuttiness lurking in the background.

Taste: The delicious dried sweet sherried fruits lead, raisins and sultanas are joined by some slightly zesty orange, creamy dark chocolate, a little cinnamon and pepper make a late appearance. Some mild oak spice and ginger hanging around in the background.

Finish: A deliciously long finish, the dried sweet sherried fruits just cling to the mouth for an age, eventually bowing out leaving some lovely peppery sweet oak spice.

Comment: An absolutely delicious sherried Speyside dram. I can say the same about this GlenDronach 15 expression as I said about the GlenDronach 12 year old, simply one of the best quality core range sherried Speyside drams for its age that you can buy.

SMW Score 93/100

GlenDronach 18 Year Old Review

Bottled at 46% ABV. I have tasted this in the past and I can say it is an absolutely stunning, rich sherried dram but I cant locate my tasting note at the moment but here is GlenDronach's official tasting note.

Producer's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Deep aromatics of fudge and dark muscovado sugar. Fruit compote and morello cherries provide added layers of complexity.

Taste: Rich, dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and allspice marry together with classical aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange.
