For those of you interested in whisky
packaging and labels, independent,
family-owned distiller, William Grant &
Sons Ltd. today unveiled a series of new
packaging designs for its iconic
Glenfiddich 12, 15 and 18 Year Old
Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. This is the
press release I received from
Glenfiddich:
As the world’s leading and most awarded
single malt, the new detail demonstrates
that it’s not just the Glenfiddich
liquid that reaches unrivalled levels of
perfection; the packaging also reflects
the high standard of the whisky and is
similarly rich with authenticity and
heritage.
The Glenfiddich 12 Year Old
As the pioneer of the prestigious single
malt Scotch whisky category, the
Glenfiddich 12 Year Old has been
transformed to improve stand out on
shelf and better communicate its most
distinguished status.
From the foil gold borders and gold
foiling on the uniquely shaped
triangular tube, to the filigree detail
on the labels, the Glenfiddich 12 Year
Old feels more crafted and authentic
than ever before.
Aged for 12 years in American and
Spanish oak casks, this award winning
whisky delivers complex rounded flavours
with elegant notes of fresh pear and
subtle oak. A reassuringly consistent
dram, the Glenfiddich 12 Year Old is
enjoyed by whisky lovers in over 180
countries worldwide.
The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old
The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old, made using
a process unique amongst Scotch whisky
distillers - inspired by sherry makers
in Spain, is the most pioneering of the
signature variants. Having matured in
three types of oak cask; sherry, bourbon
and new oak, the whisky is left to marry
in a handcrafted Solera Vat until its
distinctive notes of rich fruit, spice
and honey are realised.
This unique story strongly comes through
on the more intricate labels,
highlighting it as the most pioneering
of the range. The detailed foil gold
borders on the triangular tube and
delicate line drawings of the three oak
casks behind the copy, clearly helps to
distinguish the Glenfiddich 15 Year Old
from the 12 Year Old.
The Glenfiddich 18 Year Old
The Glenfiddich 18 Year Old is a fine
testament to the art of the distillery’s
craftsmen. Married in small batches the
story of the 18 year old whisky comes
through on the intricate labels creating
an even greater differentiation with
other Glenfiddich malts. The Glenfiddich
18 Year Old is bottled and boxed in a
more premium manner than the younger
malts displaying beautiful gold borders
and intricate filigree designs.
Glenfiddich’s Global Brand Director,
Michael Benson commented: “Each and
every one of our whiskies is attended to
by the most experienced and talented of
craftsmen, so it’s only right that the
packaging reflects this level of
dedication and integrity.
“Packaging is vital in telling our story
that is based on using time honoured
techniques and innovation in whisky.”
Glenfiddich’s 12, 15 and 18 Year Old
variants have been refined for launch in
time for the festive season, reaffirming
Glenfiddich’s position as the Christmas
malt.

The new packaging
designs will roll out globally from
October 2009.
