Glengoyne
release the first ever expression in the
Cask Strength series that has been 100%
matured in sherry oak casks.

Cask Strength Batch 6 is the latest
instalment in the southern Highland
distillery's popular cask strength
series.
The big powerful sherried no age
statement Glengoyne Cask Strength series
started life back in 2012 when it
replaced the Glengoyne 12 year old Cask
Strength which was released in 2004.
6 years on and we are now up to Batch 6
and for the first time in the series
this latest batch is the the first ever
expression in the series that has been
100% matured in sherry oak casks.
I had actually thought that all previous
batches had been 100% sherry cask matured but it
turns out I was wrong to think this. I
asked Glengoyne if this was a a change
in direction for the Cask Strength
series and going forward will future
batches be 100% sherry cask matured?
Glengoyne told me: "Every batch of
Glengoyne Cask Strength varies according
to the best casks they have in the
warehouse at that time and that is why
the cask make up changes by batch. On
this occasion, 100% sherry casks was the
best route to choose but future batches
will change according to which casks
have come of age at that time."
Bottled as we like it, un-chillfiltered, naturally coloured
and at its natural strength of 59.8%
ABV, Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch No. 6
has been created from a combination of
first fill European oak sherry casks,
American oak sherry butts and refill
sherry butts.

delighted to introduce Cask Strength No.
6, the first ever exclusively sherry
oak-matured expression in the Cask
Strength Series. As tradition dictates
for the Glengoyne Collection, this
single malt has a deep golden colour,
created by time and cask alone.
"This most pure of expressions, with its
unwavering quality and intense flavours
of demerara sugar and gooseberry,
imparted from years in sherry oak casks,
is sure to delight whisky lovers around
the world."
I haven't had the chance to taste it yet
but I am intrigued to see what
this first 100% sherry cask matured
expression in the series is like and I
will certainly update you when I get a
chance to taste it.

price tag of around £49 which is not a
bad price in comparison to the way the
pricing is currently going with some of
its rivals such as Aberlour A'Bunadh.

Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Ripe banana, warm baked custard, peppered strawberries,
digestive biscuits, soft oak and a short
sherbet tingle.
Taste: Thick rosehip syrup, Demerara sugar developing into a
spicy, gooseberry dryness. Wonderful
balance, nothing dominates. Splash of
water brings intensified syrup and green
fruits.
Finish: Very long.
