Whisky Focus - Glen Grant 1950's Collection

Gordon & MacPhail the Elgin based Urquhart family owned and run independent single malt whisky specialists has long been a fantastic source for rare vintage bottlings from the Glen Grant Speyside distillery. This is because since the founding of their business, Gordon & MacPhail has sent casks to distilleries throughout Scotland including Glen Grant to be filled with new make spirit, before being matured under the custodianship of generations of the Urquhart family.

Over the generations the Urquhart family has assembled an incomparable collection of Glen Grant whisky which they have nurtured over those generations and released from time to time under their Rare Vintage 'Distillery Labels' range. This has also enabled them to assemble this very rare 1950's Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant Collection, a collection of 6 vintage Glen Grant single malt whiskies which were distilled in 6 consecutive years in the 1950's, from 1950 to 1955.

Featured in the Glen Grant collection are two award winning whiskies, the Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1954 a stunning mature sherried dram which I have had the pleasure of (review below) and which was recently awarded a double gold award at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and a gold medal in the International Spirits Challenge 2017.

The other award winning whisky which stands out amongst the rare line up is the Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1952 which was reviewed  (review below) for SMW by Murray Cohen, Canadian based whisky connoisseur and regular contributor to this site. It was also recognised by Jim Murray in his Whisky Bible 2017 with the accolade for Single Malt 41 Years & Over (Multiple Casks).
