The Glenlivet
Founder’s Reserve, a very enjoyable
exceptionally smooth easy to drink
whisky.
Back
in October last year I told you that The
Glenlivet had announced the forthcoming
release of a new permanent No Age
Statement addition to its core range of
single malt whiskies, The Glenlivet
Founder's Reserve.
What I didn't tell you then, and what I
didn't know at the time is that the new
Glenlivet Founder's Reserve will replace
the Glenlivet 12 year old on the shelves here in the UK and in a
number of other markets throughout the
world. Although I have requested some
details as to what these other markets
will be I don't have the info yet but I
will certainly keep you updated.
So if you are a fan of the Glenlivet 12,
which I am sure there must be a lot of
you, I would suggest you stock up with
the Glenlivet 12 before it disappears
from the UK supermarket shelves and can
only be be found overpriced in whisky
shops.
For the
Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, they have
complimented the signature Glenlivet
fruity notes we are familiar with, with a creaminess and
sweetness from the addition of First
Fill American oak casks, resulting in a
very enjoyable easy to drink exceptionally
smooth single malt whisky.
This new
whisky will be bottled at 40% ABV and
will be rolling out in markets globally
from March 2015, priced alongside The
Glenlivet's 12 Year Old expression but I am sure it will
soon be found in all the big high street
supermarkets at a very drinkable price.

The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve Review
|
Bottled at 40% ABV
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Soft creamy sweet vanilla
fudge, fresh pear and some candied
orange.
Taste: Smooth entry with
sweet fruit leading the way with pear,
pineapple and zesty orange all coated in
some creamy vanilla fudge and a touch of
oak spice.
Finish: A medium to long finish, the fruitiness and creamy
vanilla slowly fade leaving just a hint
of slightly peppery drying oak spice.
Comment:
A very enjoyable easy to drink whisky
which should appeal to any whisky
drinker, new or old.
As it will be replacing the 12 year old
here in the UK and a few other market
places throughout the world it only
seems right that I should compare the
new Glenlivet Founder's Reserve to the
Glenlivet 12 year old it is replacing on
the shelves of the whisky shops.
The selective use of some American
first-fill casks has made the whisky we
would have known as the Glenlivet 12
year old a more interesting and
enjoyable whisky. It very much retains
the signature style of the Glenlivet but
the first fill casks adds some very
appealing creamy vanilla notes which
balance wonderfully with the signature
Glenlivet fruity notes we are familiar
with. There is no age statement on the
label but I would say it is probably a
skilful mix of 8 to 12 year old whisky.
I will certainly mourn the lose of the
12 from the shelves of the whisky shops
but the new Founder's Reserve is a very
welcome addition to the shelves and I
suspect may be more appealing to many
new to whisky and a little more
interesting to the whisky connoisseurs
amongst you.
As I said above, a very enjoyable
exceptionally smooth easy to drink
whisky which I am sure will be soon be
found at a very drinkable price.
