Glenmorangie
debuts one of their earliest creative
experiments at London Heathrow airport,
the Glenmorangie 25 Year Old Pommard
Cask Finish, a limited travel retail
release of 1000
bottles, which they describe as rich and
deliciously decadent.

experimental release stems from one of
their earliest experiments.
This 25 Year
Old single malt was created using
prestigious Pommard red wine casks, it
is a limited edition with only 1,000
bottles available globally. Inspired by
the intense, fruity wines from the
renowned Pommard appellation in
Burgundy, France, this whisky is now
exclusively offered at Glenmorangie's
newly opened boutique at London Heathrow
Airport Terminal Two. Here, travellers
can indulge in various whisky
experiences such as food pairings, mixology sessions, and tastings.
Glenmorangie tells me that they
consider this one of their most
delicious wine-cask finish releases to
date, this rare single malt is said to
boast opulent aromas of lemon sherbet,
plums, and cherries, complemented by
flavours of red apples, ginger, and
honey-coated cashews, creating an
extraordinary complexity.
Glenmorangie's whisky creators are
renowned for their imaginative approach
to crafting new and delightful whiskies.
They distil their delicate, fruity
spirit in exceptionally tall stills,
providing ample space for flavour and
aroma. This spirit is then aged in some
of the world's finest casks. Dr. Bill,
Director of Whisky Creation and a wine
lover himself, has always appreciated
the classic fruit profiles of Pommard's
renowned red wines. The appellation in
Burgundy's Côte de Beaune derives its
name from Pomona, the Roman goddess of
abundance, reflecting Dr. Bill's
nurturing approach to his whisky stocks.
Intrigued by how Pommard casks might
influence Glenmorangie's whisky, he
began experimenting with French oak many
years ago.
In one of these experiments, he selected
a smooth, soft Glenmorangie, aged over
10 years in bourbon casks. Envisioning a
rich, full-bodied whisky, he transferred
it into Pommard casks for an extended
maturation. Years later, upon tasting
the whisky, he was amazed by its
complexity. Balancing the robustness of
French oak with classic burgundy cask
nuances of blueberry, redcurrant,
leather, and chocolate, the distillery
believe that this 25 Year Old single
malt stands as one of Glenmorangie's
most delightful wine-cask finishes. It
comes in an elegant oak presentation box
adorned with vine illustrations that
converge in a depiction of Pomona
herself.

Creation at Glenmorangie said: "The red
wines of Pommard are among my very
favourite wines in the world. And hoping
to bring their classic, fruity red
burgundy notes to Glenmorangie, I first
started experimenting with Pommard wine
casks around 2008. Created from a small
number of casks, and with just 1,000
bottles available, Glenmorangie Pommard
Cask Finish is truly one of the most
fabulous and delicious wine-cask
finishes ever to emerge from
Glenmorangie.
"When I first tasted it, I could hardly
believe its complexity. The aroma is
very perfumed, with notes of lemon
sherbet, plums, cherries and honey. The
taste is like a basket of fruits: red,
juicy apples, honeydew melon,
crystallized ginger and a hint of milk
chocolate. This is a delectable whisky
that I’m sure global travellers will
savour and enjoy."
In October 2023, the Glenmorangie
Boutique at Heathrow Terminal 2 opened
to
visitors, offering a chance to dive into
Glenmorangie's delightful world and
discover a range of distinctive and
highly exclusive single malts from the
Highland distillery. Whisky enthusiasts
can now discover the Glenmorangie Pommard Cask Finish there, ahead of its
availability at other chosen travel
retail locations later this year. As you
can imagine you will need deep pockets
if you want to get your hands on a
bottle, the Glenmorangie 25 Year Old Pommard
Cask Finish which has been bottled at
51.8% ABV has a RRP of £2,100.

Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich,
decadent and aromatic, with rounded,
fruity esters, along with some lemon
sherbet, orange blossom honey and baked
red apples. There are some deeper
fruits, like plums and cherries, and
even a touch of sweet spearmint. With a
splash of water, even more fruitiness is
revealed, with melon, pear and plum, and
finally a gentle earthy or mossy note is
encountered.
Taste: The
texture is zesty and sherbet-like, and
is followed by the most inviting array
of flavours – ripe red apples,
syrupy-sweet honeydew melon,
crystallized ginger, chocolate-coated
raisins and a touch of cappuccino
coffee.
Finish: The
flavour lingers long in the mouth, with
finally a hint of cashew nets coated in
honey and sweet chilli, and a suggestion
of amber and incense.
