Glenmorangie
Cadboll offers dessert like flavours
inspired by a centuries old Highland
heirloom.
Glenmorangie
have unveiled the latest addition to
their so far impressive travel
retail exclusive Legends Collection.
This month we see the new Glenmorangie
Cadboll join the Legends Collection, a
permanent addition to the Legends
Collection which should appeal to most
palates as it was aged in ex-American
Bourbon casks and finished in barriques
which previously held sweet French wines
such as those of Muscat and Sémillon
grapes.
Exclusive to Travel Retail, the
Glenmorangie Legends Collection is a
unique series of single malt whiskies
created by Glenmorangie's Director of
Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky
Stocks, Dr Bill Lumsden to showcase
Glenmorangie’s pioneering wood expertise
through innovative cask assemblages and
intriguing extra-maturations.
Each creative expression in the
collection
Glenmorangie Duthac,
Glenmorangie Tayne, the new Glenmorangie
Cadboll and the outstanding
limited-edition
Glenmorangie Tarlogan were
inspired by the lands which have homed
Glenmorangie’s Highland Distillery since
1843.
Glenmorangie Cadboll, the collection’s
third permanent release, pays homage to
a precious 16th century silver wine cup
long treasured by the MacLeods of
Cadboll, whose connections with
Glenmorangie’s homeland run deep. In
1699 they created Glenmorangie’s
Highland home, Glenmorangie House (then
Cadboll House) a few miles from where
the Distillery now stands.
I haven't yet had the chance to taste
the Glenmorangie Cadboll but the
distillery tells me that it hints at the
sweet wines of the 16th and 17th
centuries the Cadboll cup might once
have held.
Dr Bill said: "The Cadboll Cup’s secret
past is fascinating. Even now, no one
knows who crafted the cup – or how its
marriage of Highland and continental
design came to be. Glenmorangie Cadboll
is our sumptuous celebration of its
contrasting character. The whisky’s
aromas of baked bread and toasted
brioche remind me of France. It is
delightfully smooth and sweet on the
palate, with tastes of mint humbugs,
milky toffee and a long finish, full of
old-fashioned confectionery. I hope the
travelling connoisseur will enjoy this
sweet tribute to our homeland’s
heritage."
Glenmorangie Cadboll is bottled at 43%
ABV and has a RRP of £75 and will be
exclusive to travel retail from this
month but if you have no plans to travel
you will find the current Glenmorangie
whisky range as well as a few limited
releases available from specialist
online whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange and
Master of Malt

Glenmorangie Cadboll Review
|
Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
The first impression is of baked bread
or freshly toasted brioche, dry and
sweet at the same time. As the nose
develops, light, sweet and lemony notes
appear. There are more dry notes with a
flinty and fresh aroma. There is even a
discreet savoury note towards the end,
like roasted sage. Some water opens up
the sweet notes further, with vanilla
pods, and a deeper citrus note of lemon
posset or orange cream.
Taste:
A smooth and full mouthfeel, this is a
slightly denser, more viscous expression
of Glenmorangie. The flavour of freshly
baked biscuits still warm from the oven.
Then more sweet flavours of candy sweets
and icing sugar on the palate, which are
balanced with a dry, crisp minerality
and some of Glenmorangie’s signature
floral aromas. With water, some mint
humbugs and lots of milky, soft toffee
fill the palate, then melting vanilla
ice-cream.
Finish:
Long and complex, with a final
suggestion of old-fashioned candy,
especially strawberry- and
lemon-flavoured boiled sweets.
