Glenmorangie 18 Year Old Gets New Look and New Name

24th November 2023
Glenmorangie unveil a new look and new name for its core range 18 Year Old which will now be known as the Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Year Old,

Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Year OldGlenmorangie has unveiled a new look for its 18 Year Old single malt and along with the new look it has a new name and a new price.

The whisky will now be known as the Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Year Old, fans of the 18 year old northern Highland dram needn't worry as it will be the same 18 Year Old whisky they are already familiar with in the bottle, it is just the look and the addition of a name that has changed.

The Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Year Old is matured for the first 15 years in hand-selected American oak bourbon casks. Then, a portion, around 30%, is transferred into Oloroso sherry casks for three more years. Once 18 years have passed, Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden brings the whiskies together to create the 18 year old dram you will find in the bottle.

Commenting on the new look Glenmorangie 18 Year Old Dr Bill Lumsden said: "For me, Glenmorangie Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony and is our most deliciously complex creation. A favourite with whisky lovers old and new, it seamlessly unites subtle sherry-cask hints and woody notes from its great age, with our Distillery’s signature soft and fruity character. The result is a beautifully balanced single malt so multi-layered, it’s as if you are drinking a different whisky every time.

"There are aromas of honey, vanilla, narcissus and jasmine, and tastes of figs, dates, nuts, gentle spices and more. Fans of Glenmorangie 18 Years Old can rest assured that our wondrous whisky is unchanged. I’m sure they’ll agree that, as its new name suggests, Glenmorangie Infinita is deliciousness without end."

The allure of the whisky is said to shine through in its new packaging which debuts from this month, November 2023. The gift box boasts a striking bold blue tone, intricately adorned with lines forming an infinity symbol. Meanwhile, the whisky's distinct bottle features a label that gleams in a lavish copper hue, paying homage to Glenmorangie's iconic copper stills.

As I said the new look also comes with a new price, it has a RRP of £130, but if you shop around you will find the old look bottle with the same whisky in the bottle considerably cheaper, I guess while stocks last, for example it is currently £95 at
Master of Malt and £110 at The Whisky Exchange

You will also find the old packaging Glenmorangie 18 Year Old at
Amazon for £95 and the new Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Year Old is also on Amazon for £130.

Glenmorangie 18 Year Old Review

Bottled at 43% ABV. Note this is my review of the old packaging 18 year old, it is the same whisky in the bottle that you will find in the new look bottle, it is worth noting that by its very nature no two batches of any single malt whisky are 100% identical.

Producer's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A sweet nose, some honey and sweet caramel, a little raisin and a wee bit of a citrus mix of orange and lemon, some pear lurking in the background also. A surprisingly subtle nose really.

Taste: The orange, lemon and raisin fruit mix from the nose now with a wee bit of a barley sugar and honeyed edge, sweet vanilla, a little nuttiness and a touch of late oak spice.

Finish: Sweet vanilla infused dried fruits and a touch of malted cereal fades to leave some very gentle, slightly drying sherry nuttiness and gentle oak spice.

Comment: It is a quality dram, subtle but quality, if you do enjoy it or have ever wanted to try it I would suggest you grab a bottle of the old packaging now before the price hike for the newly packaged and renamed, Infinita 18 Year Old kicks in.

SMW Whisky Score 90/100
