Glen Moray
release three Christmas crackers from
their Warehouse 1 Collection just in
time for Christmas.

If you are looking for something new and
special as a whisky gift or to pour for
yourself this Christmas then have a look
at these, the wise men and women at Glen Moray has released three
new treasures from the distillery's Warehouse 1
Collection, each celebrating the
marriage of its classic Speyside single
malt with some of Europe’s most revered
wine and sherry varieties.
This trio is comprised of Glen Moray
Warehouse 1 Amarone Finish which
showcases Glen Moray’s affinity with the
full-bodied red wines of Italy, finished
in casks that once held Italy’s
legendary Amarone red wine, offering
rich, ripe fruity notes that are said to
be the perfect complement to Glen
Moray’s classic Speyside spirit.
Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Amontillado
Finish, adventuring beyond the whisky’s
classic sherry maturation with dryer,
deeper, richer notes, finished in casks
that once held this dark sherry from the
Montilla region of Spain, giving the
finished whisky its dry, deep, rich
sherry notes.
Last but not least the Glen Moray
Warehouse 1 Oloroso Fully Matured, Glen
Moray spirit rested for eight years in
Oloroso casks to release the rich, sweet
notes of this characterful sherry. Dark,
nutty Oloroso ("scented" in Spanish)
plays an important part in finishing
Glen Moray’s core range, but this is the
distillery’s first expression to be
fully matured in Oloroso casks.
These three limited-edition, UK
exclusives have been bottled and
released just in time for Christmas,
making them the perfect gift for whisky
lovers, old and new, who would love to
unwrap a special dram to enjoy over the
festive season.
I just thought I would give you
a heads up if you are looking for a
different wine/sherried dram to pour this
Christmas and these are three crackers
if you can excuse the pun, you can read
my thoughts on the three new drams
below.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Amarone Finish Review

year old, 10 years in American Bourbon

Amarone red wine casks. Only 1194
bottles available. Bottled at 55.4% ABV.
RRP £79.95

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Vanilla, cherry and Turkish delight in
milk chocolate.
Taste:
A light, slightly oaky vanilla sweet
backbone supports some cherry, Turkish
Delight and milk chocolate which is
quickly joined by some poached pear and
a touch of honey. A late touch of spice.
Finish:
A deliciously long sweet finish with a
mix of the pear, Turkish Delight and
honey from the palate having a say
before giving way to a little slightly
drying oak spice and a touch of pepper
before bittering out.
Comment:
A deliciously moreish and different dram
of Glen Moray, and a good one. Yuo don't
see Amarone casks used much, so if you
are looking for something different this
Christmas this one is a good example of
a Amarone cask finish.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Amontillado Finish Review
|
Distilled 12 August 2013. Initially

bottles available. Bottled at 57.5% ABV.
RRP £74.95

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A light sugared vanilla sweetness
balances with the equally light fruit,
with a little orange being the most
prominent, some milk chocolate lurks in
the background.
Taste:
Deliciously richer than the nose let on
was coming, rich and a little oily,
sugared almond, some vanilla, a light,
slightly oaky spiced raisin with a
lovely gentle orange zesty edge, milk
chocolate.
Finish:
A lovely deliciously long lingering
finish, sweet vanilla infused with
orange citrus, the oak peaks and the
spiced raisin still wants a say.
Comment:
Another one I would be more than happy
to find in my Christmas stocking, a
little shy on the nose but an absolute
delight on the palate.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Oloroso Fully Matured Review
|
Distilled 6 June 2014, so 8 year old.
This is a combination of just 4 first
first Oloroso sherry casks. Only 1950 bottles
available. Bottled at 60% ABV. RRP
£76.95
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Honeyed dates and raisins with a wee
orange edge. A hint of sugared almonds,
cherry and some distant orange zest.
Taste:
A deliciously sherry rich full bodied
dram, juicy rum soaked raisins and
sultanas infused with some dark coffee
and orange, pepper, toasted almond and
treacle toffee.
Finish:
A deliciously long, rich, big sherried
finish. When the sherry finally fades it
leaves mildly drying oak tinged coffee
and a little bitter lingering dark
chocolate battling it out with the
sugars.
Comment:
It wouldn't be Christmas without a big
sherried dram and this is an outstanding
big sherried dram. It is young but that
youth has simply added to the pleasure
along with the flavoursome cask
strength. Loved it!
SMW Score
95/100
Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Oaky and malty aromas combine with
hedgerow fruits, rich cacao and a subtle
hint of toasted chestnuts on the nose.
Taste:
To taste there is sweet liquorice, notes
of rich autumn leaves and tannin, and a
nuttiness that transforms to oaky spice
and a long, lingering sweet, dried fruit
finish.
